Wivenhoe Muses

Wivenhoe Muses charts the history of Wivenhoe Hall, at one time the largest house in Essex, with two great towers that were known as the great sea-mark of Wivenhoe.

Wivenhoe Muses is part of a trilogy; the other two volumes: Captain John King & the Nimble Ketch and Pearl River, are historical novels that explore the maritime history of the port in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, seen through the eyes of members of the King family, who lived and worked from the quayside.

This book goes back to the sixteenth century and wrestles with the question of whether the author of Shakespeare’s plays once lived in Wivenhoe Hall.
